This is a beautiful full set of Elder Futhark Runes. Each wood rune is roughly 2 inches tall by 1 inch wide. The wood has been stained and varnished to ensure longevity. Each rune has been hand embroidered into leather. We use no machines in the stitching of our leather. The leather has been sealed to help protect the leather from time, hand oils and general wear. The leather has been firmly affixed both with an adhesive, and stitched through the wood on all four corners.
The runes currently come in a small gift bag.
The Elder Futhark are the oldest form of runic alphabets created sometime around the 1st or 2nd century. 150AD to 800AD.
The runes were used by Germanic tribes for the northwestern and Migration period dialects in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Northern Germany. They are named after the initial phoneme of the first six rune names, and derived from the first six letters in the runic sequence, F, U, Th, A, R, K.
The Elder Futhark consists of twenty four runes, often arranged in three groups of eigth called ætt.
